Uselessness is to be embraced
Like a windblown candy wrapper
Crinkled and
Palmed warmly to the waiting arms
Of a nearby pocket
Carried for a time
And released safely
Beyond the unsuspecting reach
Of my own wildlife
It may not even be my wrapper
I hope whoever
Dropped it
Took what they needed first
Or at least brushed their teeth
Sometime
Before they released themselves into dreams
I could wish for only wrapless candy
But some things need keeping safe
And I wrap myself in uselessness
Even as my hand pockets
Such a crinkled trifle
And wait windblown
For my own carrying time.
