On being inside time

I lose myself inside today
Rattling against walls
Smooth unmarked unyeilding
With the futility of
An unwatched clock

Today is much too vast
The space

Between moments
Too subtly slippery
A breath held between stars
I find myself in between
Vacuumed of self
In space no one can hear you scream
In time I can't hear myself either
In this room there is only

Me

Rattling against the polished strings
Of troubled synapses
The gentle deflation
Of an overbright balloon
In the dust and memories
Of parties
And empty rooms

Only this room isn't empty.

There is only

Me.

A Useless Paradox

Uselessness is to be embraced
Like a windblown candy wrapper

Crinkled and
Palmed warmly to the waiting arms
Of a nearby pocket

Carried for a time
And released safely
Beyond the unsuspecting reach
Of my own wildlife

It may not even be my wrapper
I hope whoever
Dropped it
Took what they needed first
Or at least brushed their teeth
Sometime
Before they released themselves into dreams

I could wish for only wrapless candy
But some things need keeping safe
And I wrap myself in uselessness
Even as my hand pockets
Such a crinkled trifle
And wait windblown
For my own carrying time.
